Review:

The integration of several ecological monofactor studies (physiographic, climatic, floristic and edaphic) on native black pinewoods (Pinus nigra spp. salzmannii) of the Iberian peninsula has been carried out. After an extensive field survey, data from 122 sample woodstand plots have been anlysed in four separate regional studies completing two steps: 1- Plan community characterization of the pinewoods from both tree canopy and understory point of view. 2- Multiple integrated analysis of the ecological factors in order to figure out their relationships, emphasizing site quality and obtaining multifactor predicting models at natural region level. Afterwards, the four regional studies have been put together in an interregional analysis. Consequently an overall view of the Iberian black pinewood ecology is provided
