Review:

The main characteristics of growth models and their utilities are analyzed. Two different classifications are established using both mathematical and integral expressions. Then 74 functions, including the most frequently used, are classified and described in detail in order to simplify the election and fitted processes of any forestry dataset. For each one of these functions it is included a descriptive table with mathematical expression, parameter restrictions, firs derivative, the values in the origin of the function and its first derivative, mean growth, asymptote, maximum, inflexion point, linear expression, the relation between the first derivative and the function, partial derivatives and the groups of the classification where the equation is included. In addition, some graphics showing the effect over the curves shape of the parameter modifications are presented for the main equations. Finally, an example of the utility of these models is presented where 24 different functions are fitted to age-dominant height data of maritime pine (Pinus pinaster) and birch (Betula celtiberica)
