This book brings together the papers presented at the III Iberoamerican Congress on Pulp and Paper Research held in Cordoba (Spain) from 10 to 12 November 2004. The book opens with the four invited lectures: " On the mechanism of the Laccase-Mediator systems in the oxidation of lignin" (D. Argyropoulos, C. Crestini and L. Jurasek ); the energy situation of the sector in "Paper, energy and CO2" (C. Reinoso), an excellent summary of the "Colloidal chemistry in deinking" (O. J. Rojas); and "What kind of research should be done in universities and research centers"(J. L. Valade). The rest of the works are grouped into several themes: raw materials; pulping; secondary fibers; bleaching; paper manufacturing; cellulose, lignin and derivatives; pollution; and industrial experiences.
