Review:

With the aim of studying variations induced on the environment by reforestations made with fast growing species, mainly Pinus pinaster Ait., Eucalyptus globulus Labill. and Pinus radiata D. Don, in N and NW Spain, a natural region, "las Mariñas" (La Coruña), with rather homogeneous climatically and lithological conditions and where these three species are well represented, has been chosen. The study of its climatically , lithological, physiographical and botanical conditions and the consideration of human influences on it, lead us to consider, inside this region, those zones belonging to La Coruña and Betanzos water sheds with altitude below 400 m. For our purposes, the region is divided into three zones: (I) characterized by a Mediterranean influenced climate and schists bedrock, (II) with Atlantic climate and schists bedrock, and (III) with Atlantic climate and granitic bedrock
