The design of soil conservation works primarily based upon empirical approaches may be restated with a deeper knowledge of the corresponding hydrologic processes. A simple hydrologic model is proposed, consisting of infiltration and surface runoff, which is very well suited to hydraulic erosion phenomenon. This model is applied to the case of a plane terraced slope. As a result some remarks can be made on the relative importance of the most influent factors. It could be convenient to modify the current design criteria.
