Review:

The aim this work is to reveal how in Mediterranean countries does not exist a common "mediterranean diet" and how, in general, this diet has become more scant in mediterranean typical products (beans, olive oil, wine…). Consequently, apparent consumption per capita for different products and countries is analyzed in the first place. Emphasis is made on domestic production/ consumption relations. Then, several countries have been grouped on a basis of their similitudes in food consumption, using “clustering” techniques. Finally, some components of food change from the 1971-72-73 and the 1985-86-87 periods are found through “Shift –share” analysis.
