Review:

The book opens with an introduction to this group of cultivated plants, their taxonomy, origin, domestication and diffusion, and describes species of Cucurbita and Lagenaria genus as well as other related species. The following two sections are devoted to explain the descriptors used and the structure of the collection. The fourth section of the book presents the collection subdivided on the basis of the shape and weight of the fruits. Information about the origin, local name, fruit characteristics (shape, weight, colour, skin pattern and hardness, skin and flesh thickness...) and plant characteristics (growing habit, precocity and leaf type) of every entry is shown in tables. Detailed colour photographs are also provided for every entry.
