Experimentation in Spain on resins generally uses very similar resin production practices. Nevertheless, there are many variations in forestry aspects due to the rugged terrain and the variety of climates and soils. This work explains the establishment of trial sites by IFIE in Spanish important resin regions (provinces of Avila, Guadalajara and Segovia). It also analyzes the physicochemical characteristics of three samples of yellow resins. Finally, as rosins are classified on a scale of tones and the color grade shows the different types of resins, we have studied different physical and chemical properties which will help to their classification, such as melting point, density, refractive index, optical rotation, index acid, volatile acid, saponification and ether indices, and iodine value.
