The monograph presents a characterized collection of swiss chard seeds (Beta vulgaris L. subsp. vulgaris Leaf Beet group) from the Gene Bank of Valencian Center for the Conservation and Breeding of Agricultural Biodiversity of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. The introduction presents the taxonomy and plant genetic resources of the genus Beta and cultivated and related species are described. Also domestication, diffusion and use are discussed. The following two sections explain the descriptors used and the structure of the collection. The fourth section of the book presents the collection subdivided on the basis of the crop cycle, midrib colour, leaf colour and shape of the section of the midrib. Information about the origin, local name and plant characteristics of 74 accessions (73 Spanish and 1 of Caribbean origin) is shown in tables. Detailed colour photographs are also provided for every group
