Review:

The purpose of this study is to analyze international cooperation in regards to matters concerning forest, particularly their full incorporation into the area of International Law in the Conference of Rio de Janeiro on Development and the Environment. The analysis deals on one hand with the diversity of instruments and international acts of different legal nature that tackle sectorial aspects related to forests. On the other hand, with the diverse and varied actions of international organisms and other institutional mechanisms of international cooperation among the states in forest matters. This analysis of the existing international legal system related to forests tries to highlight the system´s effectiveness in legal terms and the need for new mechanisms, including a possible mandatory international legal instrument regarding the forests.
