This paper is an integral study of Aleppo pine, its aptitudes in different climatic media and its response to possible variations in these media. The subject is approached from three distinct but complementary angles. Firstly, an attempt has been made to gather, process, synthesize and discuss all existing information on its distribution past and present, thus offering an overall view the ecology of the species. Secondly, lines of research have been iniated on its phytoclimatic behavior in Spain from the standpoint of ability to compete with species. Thirdly, analyses have been carried out using a Geographic Information Systems, thus furnishing new data management tools.
