Review:
Spain is a country abounding in a number of cistus (jaras y jaguarzos). They grow either alone or with other bushes covering wide areas (jarales). The authors treat, therefore, the problem both from the botanical and the forestal point view. Giving precedence to the latter in consideration of the forestall character of is Center. The first part brings a biological study of the Spanish species and their correlation with heat plants and trees under the most varied ambient conditions. In consequence, deductions are given of theoretical and practical order for the silviculture and agronomy. To facilitate the understanding of the non specialized reader, the scientific names are set beside the common ones. There follows a chapter provides a botanical description of the family of Cistaceae and its divisions with keys down to the genus Cistus, all Spanish species being described. The final section is one a study of hybrids both natural and artificial. The drawings and photographs are originals, most them have been provided specially by the authors for this publication, which was begun and completed during the current year.
